Jerry O’Connell has balls

Jerry O’Connell shows huge cahones in this video where he mocks Jerry MacGuire co-star Tom Cruise’s recently released Scientology video. It doesn’t make much sense unless you’ve seen the original video, so go and watch it now.

Too funny. The point, however, is that Scientologists are stark raving mad and need to be watched closely. I see a Kool-Aid party in their future.

Finals week

It’s the last week of the semester, which means finals. Now being in journalism I don’t have finals per se, but a lot of small projects to sew up and finish off.

So I’m taking the week off from this blog (though I still may hit up the UCF blog, I’ve got to try and get as much traffic there as possible.) Be back in week when things aren’t as hectic.

See you, and until then, here’s a little something to give you nightmares.

Anderson Cooper channels John Stewart

This is an old clip but a goodie. It’s the end of the year story from last year’s AC360° regarding the Trump/O’Donnell feud. What is hilarious about the clip is Cooper breaking character and doing the popcorn, soda and snacks bit that is often a shtick of John Stewart’s on The Daily Show when a story is particularly ridiculous, gossip-laden or full of celebrity hubris.

People often criticize TDS’s methods as a “fake” news organization, something it makes no apologies for, and that it dilutes the news. When a real news organization adopts some of their methods, tongue-in-cheek as they are, it further validates The Daily Show as an important ingredient in the stew of news and information.

I have the utmost respect for Anderson Cooper and I am glad CNN allows him to loosen up once in a while and have a little fun with his stories. I mean come on, how could you not make light of something that is in all reality a non-story?

CBS News investigates veteran suicides…

…and the results are startling.

Results for 2005

Overall Rates
Veterans: 18.7 to 20.8 per 100,000

Female Rates

Non-Veterans: 4.5 per 100,000

Wow, this is really ridiculous. Think about that, for every 100,000 male troops, 30 are statistically likely to kill themselves. That is unacceptable!

Whether you support the war or not, President Bush or not, this should be a concern. It is a non-partisan issue. Hell, war supporters should be more concerned. If the military starts getting a bad (or worse) reputation, who in the hell is going to want to sign up? Recruiters will be casing more high schools and colleges being forced to spin their lies about military service. Guys on their third and fourth tours will be forced to go back because there is no one to replace them and our military will be less effective. So, taking care of veterans is in their best interest.
