The Jingle Punks Hipster Orchestra

A friend of mine from grade school has a great company called Jingle Punks. They do music licensing and placements for indie and unsigned musicians. They have an awesome business model and a great product that I’ve watched blossom and grow from the sidelines.

Being that the company is a music company, many of the folks that work there are also excellent musicians. So, borne out of a bunch of talented people hanging out and doing cool things together, came the Jingle Punks Hipster Orchestra. So far they’ve done some cool stuff, basically covers of popular songs.

Check them out here covering MGMT’s “Time to Pretend.” And go to their site to check out their other covers and show some support and download their MP3s.

Jimmy Kimmel responds to Sarah Silverman

In response to Sarah Silverman’s video, Jimmy Kimmel strikes back with an all-star cast including Ben Affleck, Brad Pitt, Harrison Ford, Cameron Diaz, Joan Jett, Macy Gray, Robin Williams, Don Cheadle, Pete Wentz, Perry Farrell, Benji and Joel Madden, Lance Bass, Huey Lewis, Josh Groban, McLovin and Meatloaf and more. Good grief, I didn’t know Kimmel had that much pull.

Brilliant!

CityBeats

So have this first assignment for my Metro Reporting class where I have to take a song that deals with urban issues or city life, write a 1,500-word story/report on it and then create a PowerPoint presentation on it.  The problem is, I’m bad with song lyrics and themes.  So I’m looking for suggestions here.

Right now I’m looking at one of these:

  • Phil Collins, It’s Another Day for You and Me in Paradise
  • Dr. Dre, Nuthin’ but a “G” Thang
  • Something by Rage Against the Machine
  • N.W.A, Fuck the Police!

That’s all I can come up with right now, but it’s due in a month so I need to get cracking.  The PowerPoint is where it will shine though, I’m thinking full-on music video with gratuitous animations and depressing and tear-jerking photographs.

So suggestions needed audiophiles.
