Road rage + guns + idiots = FLORIDA!

Yet again, here’s more evidence of why more guns is not a good thing.

Here’s the scenario. Guy #1 is driving his kids to school. He gets behind guy #2 who is in a van in front of him. Guy #1 feels that guy #2 is driving too slow. He tries to pass, van speeds up. He starts racing the van and eventually gets in front of it. Van rear-ends guy #1.

Guy #1′s natural first instinct is to get out his gun and start blasting at guy #2. Guy #2′s instinct is of course to take out his gun and start firing back OK Corral style. Guy #1 then drops his kids off and pursues guy #2, gun in hand.

The result is a rolling gunfight in a residential neighborhood that ends in both individuals being arrested.

Here’s the kicker: Both drivers had legal permits to carry concealed weapons.

More guns does not equal a more just a safe society. Period.

This also proves that Darwin was right. It’s just too bad some kids were in the cross fire and a damn good thing they didn’t get hit. Guy #1 would be feeling like quite the fool (well more so anyway) if his kids had been riddled with bullets.

Orange County Sheriff Kevin Beary not to seek re-election

And the peasants rejoice. His statement:

I will not seek election to a fifth term as Sheriff of Orange County. I did not arrive at this decision lightly or without a great deal of personal introspection.

In recent weeks I have spent considerable time discussing this issue with my family. It became painfully obvious that during the past 15 years I have virtually immersed myself in the duties and responsibilities of the enormous task providing quality law enforcement services to the citizens who have entrusted me their safety and security… 24 hours a day, seven days a week.

As I look back on my years of service in the public sector, particularly the years I have served as Sheriff, I am proud of my accomplishments. None of which would have been achieved without the grace of God, my loving family, the men and women who serve within this organization, and the citizens who never wavered in their continued support to me and the Office of the Sheriff.

I believe this agency has become and continues to be one of America’s premier law enforcement operations. We lead the nation for Homeland Security and Emergency Management. We proved our abilities during the storms of 2004 and 2005. We are one of the most highly trained and best-equipped law enforcement entities in the country. We have consolidated our operations into one first class central complex, we have streamlined our management team, and we have brought millions of dollars of grant money into the county. We have and will continue to support and do everything possible in the legislative realm to facilitate the passage of several laws such as the red light running bill and faux firearms act for the enhancement of public safety and other legislation such as the Mike Callin and Adam Pierce laws for the peace of mind for those of you on the streets doing a most difficult and dangerous job.

I am looking forward to enjoying more time with my family and getting back to being a husband and father to the wife, sons, and daughters who have made tremendous sacrifices during the past 15 years. But for the next 11 months there is still much to be done. I intend to finish what I have started before saying farewell to the job I am committed to and love. I wish I could personally thank every member of the community for their support of the Orange County Sheriff’s Office. Thank you all.

It’s about time. Orange County needs some change and almost anyone would be better than Beary.

Currently there are four candidates who say they will run:

  • Jerry Demings, former Orlando police chief – Democrat
  • Malone Stewart, retired Undersheriff – Democrat
  • Edgewood Police Chief John Tegg – Republican
  • Bill Armstrong, a longtime law official – Republican

Fred Thompson Should Stick to TV.

Presidential hopeful Fred Thompson recently did a whirlwind tour through Florida, mostly visiting the elderly in places like The Villages. While here he stopped for a chat with Gov. Crist and dropped this gem:

On oil drilling, Thompson said he was surprised to learn that reserves may exist in the Everglades. "But maybe that's one of the things I need to learn while I'm down here," said Thompson, seated next to Crist in the Governor's Office.

...

Thompson, who said he visited nine Florida cities during last week's barnstorming tour, also sought to clarify what many environmentalists see as an overly eager approach to oil drilling.

"Everybody needs a seat at the table," he said. "There are competing interests in this country. But nobody wants to see $100 [a barrel] oil, either. We have to do what's reasonable and makes sense. I'm not . . . going to take this, that or the other off the table."

Thompson also said, "Florida is a very important state to me."

This man should not be president.

Apparently he thinks the best way to combat rising oil prices is…TO DRILL FOR MORE OIL! Hey Aqua-Velva Man, I have an idea, how about we stop relying on oil so much. Just a thought you know, considering we’re not only sucking the life out of the planet but putting ourselves in compromising positions with terrorist countries. I know things like bio-diesel, solar, wind and other alternative energy sources might sound scary to your Ronald Reagan/John Wayne-sense of politicking, but considering our current situation it may not be a bad idea. That’s the idea you shouldn’t take off of the table, not drilling in for oil in the already threatened Everglades.

Crist’s repsonse: “I really prefer that we not do that,” Crist quickly added.

He may not be perfect, but at least Crist is looking out for his state.

Sex-cuses.

State Rep. Allen explains sex case: Fear made me play along

"I certainly wasn't there to have sex with anybody and certainly wasn't there to exchange money for it," said Allen, R-Merritt Island, who was arrested on charges of soliciting prostitution.

"This was a pretty stocky black guy, and there was nothing but other black guys around in the park," Allen, who is white, told police in a taped statement after his arrest. Allen said he feared he "was about to be a statistic" and would have said anything just to get away.

Ok, then maybe you can explain why a Merritt Island Rep. was hanging around a dingy old park in Titusville. Just checking out that merry-go-round right?

Come on dude, you’re not so important that police would waste their time framing you. It’s not their fault you like to secretly smoke pole. Do your time.
