Newt Gingrich, Platform of Hypocrisy

Former Speaker of the House Newt Gingrich has revealed, in an attempt clear the air before announcing a presidential bid, that he had an affair while pursuing Clinton over the Lewinsky case. A man whose party constantly runs on “moral values” had an affair? No way! It gets better than just that though.

The woman he cheated on during the Clinton deal was his second wife, a woman who he cheated on his first wife with and then married just months after their divorce. But wait, there’s more. He cheated on his second wife with, you guessed, his third wife whom he is married to right now. Damn, the family values don’t get much more devalued than that do they?

You know people cheat all of the time in America, I think it is something in the water. For Newt to have been going after Clinton so viciously while he himself is cheating on his own wife is pure insanity. His defense:

"The president of the United States got in trouble for committing a felony in front of a sitting federal judge," he said, arguing that Clinton had "deliberately committed perjury."

Because he had been through a divorce, Gingrich said, he knew the importance of telling the truth during a deposition.

"The standard is: In a court of law should somebody who's popular get away with perjury?" Gingrich said. "And I drew a line in my mind that said, 'Even though I run the risk of being deeply embarrassed, and even though at a purely personal level I am not rendering judgment on another human being, as a leader of the government trying to uphold the rule of law, I have no choice except to move forward and say that you cannot accept felonies and you cannot accept perjury in your highest officials."

Oh, so because Clinton lied to a federal judge and you were only lying to your wives it makes it ok. Got it, no problem. I can’t wait to see how the right-wing spins this one.

Newt, a little piece of advice, stay out of the race. I mean come on, you’ve already blamed Katrina victims, calling them stupid, you don’t have a chance. Your feeble attempts to criticize the Democratic party will now fall completely flat. Case in point:

Constantly espousing family values even while he carried on an affair, Gingrich linked his party to wholesome family values and Democrats to, well, something else.

During the 1992 Democratic National Convention, Gingrich said, "Woody Allen having nonincest with a nondaughter to whom he was a nonfather because they were a nonfamily fits the Democratic platform perfectly."

In 1994, Gingrich linked Democrats to Susan Smith, a woman who had murdered her two children in 1991.

"I think that the mother killing the two children in South Carolina vividly reminds every American how sick the society is getting and how much we need to change things," he said. "The only way you get change is to vote Republican."

Yeah Newt, because you’re the model of morality we’ve all been waiting for. People are human, and humans are weak, but the fact Newt and his fellow Republicans like to put themselves on these pedestals as models of virtue and meanwhile they’re committing the sins that they rail against, that is the problem.

I normally have more respect for CBS but this pitiful attempt by Steve Chaggaris to equate Newt’s indiscretion to Barack Obama’s $375.00 in unpaid parking tickets he accrued while attending Harvard Law is pure journalistic irresponsibility. While Mr. Chaggaris doesn’t come right out and place the two on an even keel, the mere fact that he put them in the same story, along with Biden’s “foot-in-mouth” comments, reveals his intent. People really are doing anything they can to smack Obama down.

And the show goes on.

Dino Farts = Global Warming

This past week Congress held its first hearings in response to the IPCC report on climate change that attributed global warming to human activity.

During the hearing, Rep. Dana Rohrabacher (R-CA) has a not so lone dissenting opinion:

“We don’t know what those other cycles were caused by in the past. Could be dinosaur flatulence, you know, or who knows?”

Right.

I don’t understand the argument by those that deny global warming is caused by man, that since we aren’t the cause we shouldn’t be concerned with it. Whether or not we caused it, shouldn’t we still attempt to do something to curb it if we want the planet to survive?

Thing Progress has a video.

Right-Wing Limbo

Just when you thought the Right couldn’t get any lower, they drop this bomb of journalistic irresponsibility.

Come one guys. Attack his voting record, attack his inexperience, hell even attack his books; but for the sake of us all don’t inject completely false arguements into the arena. It’s muddled enough with conjecture and disinformation, keep it real please.
