David Shuster on Bush’s Vietnam Analogy.

Ready…aim…fire!

Showing once again that President Bush has a marginal grasp of both history and metaphors.

The best part:

April 13th, 2004
Interviewer: How do you feel about the Vietnam analogy?

Bush: I feel the analogy is false…and it sends the wrong message to our troops.

Do Bush and Cheney forget that the things they say are actually recorded and archived?

CityBeats

So have this first assignment for my Metro Reporting class where I have to take a song that deals with urban issues or city life, write a 1,500-word story/report on it and then create a PowerPoint presentation on it.  The problem is, I’m bad with song lyrics and themes.  So I’m looking for suggestions here.

Right now I’m looking at one of these:

  • Phil Collins, It’s Another Day for You and Me in Paradise
  • Dr. Dre, Nuthin’ but a “G” Thang
  • Something by Rage Against the Machine
  • N.W.A, Fuck the Police!

That’s all I can come up with right now, but it’s due in a month so I need to get cracking.  The PowerPoint is where it will shine though, I’m thinking full-on music video with gratuitous animations and depressing and tear-jerking photographs.

So suggestions needed audiophiles.

Suicide Spree.

Suicide Rate in Army at a 26-Year High

WASHINGTON -- Ninety-nine U.S. soldiers killed themselves last year, the highest rate of suicide in the Army in 26 years, a new report says.

More than one out of four soldiers who committed suicide did so while serving in Iraq or Afghanistan, according to a report scheduled to be released Thursday. Iraq was the most common deployment location for U.S. soldiers who either attempted suicide or committed suicide.

I know that statistically these things are inevitable in war time but this is ridiculous. I wonder if the pro-war lobby and the administration look at these these sort of figures as anything more than just that, as an inevitability and/or collateral damage.

This is not just another mere side-effect of war. This is another bright and blaring warning signal that the war is wrong and something needs to change, and fast.

Leave it up to the God-fearing folk to have all of the evidence in front of them yet still believe their own bullshit fantasies.
