29 Mar 06 I got five (or six) on it.

Not to be confused with 5ives, which is a source of instant hilarity that you should read before your morning commute everyday.

Five News Stories to Read Today:

  1. MPs blast release of Christian convert
  2. Gunmen Kill 8 Workers at Iraqi Shop
  3. Motorcycle-riding 'policy geek' takes job
  4. Immigration bill poses dilemma for Senate Republicans' rift and presidential politics stall debate on guest worker program
  5. Britney sculpture draws flood of complaints

Five Blogs You Might Want to Read (But might not know about):

  1. Atlas Shrugs
  2. Bookslut
  3. Wal-Mart Watch
  4. The Sneeze
  5. GalleyCat
    BONUS: Santorum Exposed
Five Personal Quirks of Mine that Have Troubled Me Lately:

  1. I bookend my days with coffee, drinking it both in the morning and before I go to bed.
  2. I can't put anything in the microwave for an even amount of time. If it should be in there for a minute, I hit 1:07. If it should be in there for 20 seconds, I do 22. If microwaves had a 0.5 button I be the only one using it.
  3. I rationalize people's bad driving by giving them mental disorders that fit the situation.
  4. I have a tendency to overstimulate myself. At any given time I might be reading a passage from a book, dancing between a blog post and magazine article online, music will be quietly emanating from my speakers but is slightly drowned out by the punditocracy on television. And I wonder why I feel like I'm standing on the precipice of madness sometimes.
  5. When walking on sidewalks or hallways I get unnerved when people pass me on my right. I approach walking like driving. Stay in your lane bitch, we aren't in England. Same goes for the mall. There's a left side and a right side for a reason.
    Five Songs:

  1. The White Stripes - My Doorbell
  2. The Libertines - What a Waster
  3. Party Ben - Paid For My Doorbell (Eric B. & Rakim vs. White Stripes)
  4. Fugazi - Turkish Disco
  5. Daft Punk - Harder, Better, Faster, Stronger
Five Websites that Will Waste Too Much of Your Time:

  1. The Surrealist Compliment Generator
  2. Dr. Brommer's Magic Quotes
  3. Blue Ball Machine
  4. Game Oldies!
  5. You Tube

Time to go. School, work and the sun is calling me. Never stop being aware. Have a good one.

29 Mar 06 boris sans natasha.

With his sentencing coming up, has pretty good summation of Jack Abramoff's dealings thus far. I can't believe Abramoff's call for letters might actually do a bit of good for him. Well, as long as Abramoff doesn't have Judge Hearty Mc-Feels-A-Lot, I think ol' Jack will be put away for a long time.

PICTURE NOT WORKING BECAUSE WONKETTE.COM IS MESSED UP

Best picture to emerge from the French protests so far. I'm sorry though Wonkette, but I made the same joke last week. You bitches get paid to blog, step it up!

Oh, and I hope you just caught one of the greatest hours on TV ever. Fareed Zarkaria on TDS, and Michael “Brownie” Brown on The Colbert Report. Fareed is one of the best guests on TDS and always has his finger on the pulse of not only the nation, but the world. Brownie did well against Colbert, he took everything with surprising sense of humor. Catch it on the repeat if you can.

And I still can't figure out why Google isn't working right. I've narrowed it down to my home connection, but it isn't Firefox specific. When I hook up to the school's Wi-fi, it works fine. When I hook to the network at work, again, it goes straight Google without error. For some weird reason my home connection refuses to connect to Google search or serve up Google AdSense. I think it has something to do with my roommates wireless router. Can you accidentally firewall a website? I doubt they go into the adminstrative controls of the router often. Sorry, rambling, none of this matters.

Oh, and thanks for the random present . That was a really unexpected thing. I don't think they wrap up Ming vases that carefully.

Bert Grant's like a mo'fucka!

Later folks.

28 Mar 06 get over it.

Is anyone else tired of hearing about 'stupid pastor's wife kills husband' story? What makes this so much different than the other wife kills husband stories that no doubt are out there? I'm sure there was some sort of abuse or dark secret they harbored. For some reason the news people are so “shocked” because he was a pastor. Yeah, because pastors are never in the news and are squeaky clean.

A pastor is a job title, not a viable assessment of a person's character.

However all lawyers suck, all politicians are crooked, and all italian chefs are big fat guys with white hats and a moustache.

28 Mar 06 clouded.

Watching the little Bush pow wow announcing White House Chief-of-Staff Andy Card's resignation, I thought they were all about to start jerking each other off. Seriously though, it was such a strokefest. Even Andy's successor Josh Bolten got in on the act.

“Mr. Bush, it's an honor and I think you are so great.”

“Andy, you did a great job, everything you do is great.”

“I love you schmoopie.”

“I love you too schmoopie.”

Aww, isn't it cute.

Oh, and it is a good thing we didn't turn those ports over to Dubai, otherwise they might be unsafe or something. The scary part, apparently they got their forged documents via the Internets. See kids, it's not just for music and pr0n anymore!

27 Mar 06 tired boss, real tired.

Long day, in fact it is going to be a long week. More training at work, I never thought I'd have to learn so much about the banking industry. I have to order a password from the Federal Reserve in order to do some stuff, then I'll wield all sorts of power. I also have to train a new guy for the IT part of my job. Training and being trained at the same time is mentally taxing. He seems like a smart guy though so it shouldn't be difficult for him to pick up. As soon as I can, I'm taking a 3-day weekend and getting the fuck away from here. The fact that I can start to plan things like this sets me slightly at ease.

Time for some internets.

Some reading (finished Prague, really good).

And some sleeps.

Oh, and download this. It's pretty damn good, as are all the Kleptones albums.

Star Wars: Revelations

With a budget between $15,000-$20,000 and a running time of 47 mins., this isn't your average fan film. One thing is for, the acting can't be much worse than that of the prequels.

26 Mar 06 Sunday Reading; aka Lazy Sunday pt. II.

In case you are as much of a hermit as I and aren't outside enjoying this gorgeous day, here's some Sunday reading for you as you scour the Internets for pr0n and shitty arguements on movie forums.

  • The Procrastinator-in-Chief by Terence Samuel @ The American Prospect
Political writer Terence Samuel takes a quick look at how today's messes are being left for future president's to clean up. Short and sweet.

  • Seven Questions: What Next for Iraq? interview with Nir Rosen @ Foreign Policy
[ from article ] When President Bush speaks derisively about advocates of “cutting and running” from Iraq, he has in mind people like Nir Rosen, a journalist whose reporting has led him to the conclusion that U.S. withdrawal is the best policy. | In seven quick questions Rosen explains how not only has Iraq been in a civil war since 2004 but that it has been under the rule of Islamic extremists since the beginning of the war despite claims to the contrary. He also explains why he doesn't think that the U.S. and Iran have any reason to be enemies.

  • The Intolerant Gospel by Gerd Luedemann @ Free Inquiry
Does intolerance fit into the Christian ethos? Apparently it does, and quite well actually. Professor of History and Literature of Early Christianity at the University of Goettingen, Luedemann explains how a certain level of intolerance is inherent in the Christian faith. Interestingly enough the university has placed restrictions on Luedemann's teachings due to his his work in religious criticism. I guess he is still waiting on tenure.

  • “But now all the stations are silenced, ’cause they ain’t got a government license”: Why Unlicensed Broadcasting Should Not Be a Crime by Jesse Walker @ Reason
Pirate radio used to be the medium of choice for dissenters, underground music lovers, and many others with a desire to spread their voice. Now, with egregious fines and punishments disproportionate to the offense, unlicensed radio stations are cowering under fear and being forced to shut down. Does unlicensed radio have a place? Or is just a public nuisance clogging the airwaves?

  • Censoring Censure by John Nichols @ The Nation
John Nichols answers why the non-support of Russ Feingold's call for censuring of George Bush was such an important failure of the Democrats in Congress. How can they ever hope to be the stronger party when they can't even support each other? Feingold had the guts to stand up and say what no doubt many of them were thinking, and they just stood there and made him look the fool. Nice job asshats.

  • Washington's Invisible Man by David Margolick @ Vanity Fair
Everything you ever wanted to know about Jack Abramoff but were afraid to ask. This is a very long article but it is a very in-depth look at the man who might end up changing the way Washington works in future. Could something good actually come out of this disasterous affair? Perhaps finally the folks in D.C. will finally take a step back and redefine how they operate. Or perhaps not, but it's a nice thought.

I'm sure I've bored you enough with all of this so I will leave you now to go about your day. Enjoy today, because who knows if there will be a tomorrow.
