I had to go to Wal-Mart to return something and I saw the coolest thing. As I was driving through the parking lot I saw an older, black couple exiting the store. They were probably in their early to mid-60's or so and dressed rather Cosby-ish. The wife of the group was pushing the cart and when she got to a little incline in the parking lot she hopped up on that little bar and rode on the cart for about 50 feet just like we all used to (and some of us still do) when we were kids. All the while the husband is laughing and smiling at his wife, whom he is obviously still very much in love with. It was amazing and beautiful to see two older people that still have a zeal and a lust for life that some people in their 20's don't even have. I can only hope that I have half of that when I am in my 60's (if I make it that far).
It seems that people in this day and age have lost the meaning of what life is all about. Not to say that I know, or anyone really does know, but it is the want and the pursuit that is important right. So many people I talk to or, well let's face it I eavesdrop on them, could care less that the world is being polluted, children are getting a lackluster education, and people are starving all over the country. I know I bring it up a lot but people seem to be so concerned with the lives of all of these 'characters' on over a dozen reality shows. This isn't reality. These shows are a tactic to lure you into a false sense of reality and dull the senses as to what is important. It is control through fear and influence I tell you. Ok, check this shit. NBC air shows such as The Apprentice, Average Joe, Fear Factor, and the all new Who Wants to Marry My Dad. Now these four shows appeal to a wide demographic of people such as office weasels, the average consumer, and thrill seekers, and the family types. Now that NBC has the attention of a broad range of people they can be sure to air plenty of ads for consumer products owned by their parent company, G&E. As you may well know G&E is one of the largest corporations in the world. What you may not know is that G&E not only makes light bulbs, they also make missles. Missles that were, and are, being used in this unjustified war. Not only that, but G&E is also a Bush campaign contributor. So the more viewers NBC gets, the more profit they make, and the more they can contribute to the man that will buy and use their missles. I think I know where the real axis of evil is, and I don't need to fly overseas to get there.
Seriously though, what the fuck are we doing here? I mean really, do you really think we were put here to violate and rape the planet like a prison inmate on his first day? This planet has been around for millions of years, MILLIONS. And it has only taken us 2,000 years to fuck it up to the point of complete and utter disgust. I think there is hope however. There are plenty of wonderful, smart, and golden-hearted individuals out there that are in a position to make changes. But they can only be as strong as the will of the people. People always say, “Oh, well what can we do? What's the point?” Where would we be if everyone in history had this complacent and negative attitude? We certainly wouldn't all be here, or at least this variation of here. Sure, I don't agree at all with the way that this country was founded, on blood. It was founded by systematically slaughtering and decimating almost an entire culture of people, and that is awful. The fact is though, it happened, and as long as we know that, we can learn from it. However this country was still born because there were those that were not afraid of those above them. They were not afraid of taking a chance in something they believed in, and that's what we all have to do. Believe in ourselves and out ability to make change. You can't rely on just the politicians, in truth it isn't their fault. We the people are too blame, because they are the result of what we put into our system. This is the best we can do people. Garbarge in, garbage out. Our current system, educational, economical, and political, is only producing what it can, idiot presidents out of touch with reality. In order to change things we must start at the source I think. We need to properly educate ourselves and our children so that when the time comes we can all step up and take our place in society and make it better. We live in a beautiful fucking world people, let's not give up on it just yet.
So where does that leave all of us here, at the smaller scale? Well, for starters we can all plan on voting in November. Hell, it doesn't even matter who you vote for (as long as it isn't Bush), just get out there and believe in something enough to try and make a difference. Everyday I see something that makes me glad to be alive in this world, in this time, and in this country. I would hate to see it all go to shit. One day I may have children and they may have children and I would like them to live in a lush, beautiful and safe world. I don't want them to only read about the smell of an ocean breeze, or only know trees from they see in books because the Earth is so polluted they are devoid of these things. Hell, and most of you may think that this is major nerdy but fuck you, I hope that one day the world is the way it is in Star Trek. Now I'm not talking vulcans and phasers, but how the world is. They are no longer ruled by money and politics, but the pursuit of knowledge and other beings. Now I know that is all a bit idealistic, but it's a good thought. I mean really, it that all that matters to the world of today, money, sex, greed, and Survivor? The world doesn't revolve around getting your dick (or what have you) wet, I'm sorry to tell you.
So my point is, at least I think it is, is that we can't give up. Whether it be in our own personal lives or on the world as a whole. If you give up and let them take you then they win, and we can't have that. Another thing to remember is that no matter how shitty things get, no matter how much you think that your life sucks, there are hundreds of other people out there that have it much worse. Each and every day that you get to open your eyes is a day that you should love and cherish. And although I don't know most of you, I like you and I like your life because you have one.* There are plenty of people that don't anymore. So love each day, no matter what.
Let's get Bush out of there people, before he declares war on the moon or something.
Take care, love, peace, and happiness to all.

*For those of you keeping score I 'borrowed' this bit of quote from the Henry Rollins DVD, Talking From The Box. So don't say I don't give credit where credit is due.
