30 Jun 03 So this sucks…

So it comes to this, writing personal stuff in a semi-public journal. Oh well, here we go.

For the last few days my girlfriend and I have been fighting (yes, a girlfriend. i didn't feel that that kind of stuff was any of your business.) This was not your run-of-the-mill fighting but the breaking up kind of fighting. I came to the conclusion that we weren't meant to be together, and that we weren't the right persons for each other. She seems to think that my LJ stuff is way to flirtatious, which I disagree with. If any of you would like to come to my defense and tell her that no one on my friends list or otherwise has met, exchanged more the greetings and comments, or exchanged information that would lead to meeting anytime soon it would be greatly appreciated. Just post a comment, she will read it most likely.

In my defense I will say that I do love this woman, she is a great woman. She is strong-minded, determined, and as stubborn as a mule when it comes to something she believes in. That is also why we are not compatible, our two outlooks on things just clash too much. It is an unfortunate series of events that have occurred between us but it was inevitable. As much as she is being mean to me through this break-up, I don't hold any ill will or animosity toward her. I am mainly writing this in the hopes that she will read it, as she will not listen to me orally anymore.

At this time I guess that we are officially broken up from our relationship of over a year and a half. It is a sad day, but I am hoping it is better that this happen now then when it is too late to turn back.

To Kate, my as of just recently ex-girlfriend, I will say that I am sincerely sorry for all of the pain and anguish that I may have caused you, regardless if I agree with it or not. I wish the best in all of your future endeavors, I know that you will do well for yourself. Please take care of Newman (the dog in the photos, she is taking him away from me :( ) and if you need any help with him I will be here. And if you ever need any help, although I know that you will not except mine, I extend that help.

That is all I can say about that.

27 Jun 03 Way to go capitalism

I just returned from a trip to Barnes & Noble, one of my most favorite places on earth, even though it is a mega corporation which I usually disdain. Anyway, I can never seem to leave that damn place empty handed. This trip I picked up an introductory book on Quantum Theory and The Theory of Everything by Stephen Hawking. Yeah I'm a nerd, so what. That makes two more books on deck for me to read, bringing the tally up to about a thousand. I started reading Invisible Monsters by Chuck Palahniuk a few days ago. It's pretty good, and I usually don't like books with female leads. I was reading Neuronmancer by William Gibson but Newman took it upon himself to eat it and I don't feel like buying another copy.

I also picked up a new sketchbook, something I haven't done in probably three or four years. I'm hoping that it will rekindle my artistic flame so to speak. The current state of the art world these days pisses me off though. Someone craps on a canvas, gives a fancy name, and suddenly they are a genius. Hell it takes them longer to explain it than it did to paint it, or sculpt it, or write it. Meanwhile I know amazing artists that have to work real jobs because their stuff isn't “modern” enough. I think the “found object” scene in the movie Ghost World sums it up best.

When I got home and checked the mail I was elated to discover that the Zines I ordered from AK press arrived, and quite promptly I might add. I ordered them in order to give some ideas into what direction I want to try and take with the Zine me and the Penguin are doing. We want to focus on what is going on in all of the local “scenes” if you will. Whether it be music (of all genres), politics, movies, video games, art, etc,. we want to look at from the view of the commoners such as we. Plus we are just to bored writer guys that want to create something that we can present to future employers as a display of our ability and gumption (not Forrest).

That is all for today, I think I'll pop the top on a Newcastle and try to create something. Good day.

27 Jun 03 Thoughts Process

You know every morning I wake up, deal with the doggy stuff, and then sit down at my comp to check my news sites and find out what is going on in the world. Everyday it's the same thing: death, rape, murder, scandal, corporate mergers, blah blah blah. It's all so damn depressing that sometimes I wish I didn't know so much or had that curiousity gene that makes me want to know about everything.

Seriously though, what is happening to us as human beings? It seems that in some parts of the world we are de-evolving even. Reverting back to our primal and animalistic instincts of just eating, fucking, and sleeping. They have special clubs for these de-evolutionaries too, I believe they call them fraternities.

Anyway, enough of that negative thinking.
If only I had some motivation…

Hey it's Tony Robbins, the power of positive thinking guy! That's just what I need to pick me up, thanks Tony. Man you gotta large noggin though.

So not much else has been happening this week. It's Friday, I went to the grocery store, so now I have food but no more money :( Tomorrow is work, so no going out as usual on a Friday night.

If anyone listens to the Phil Hendrie show out of California and would like to extend a message to Phil let me know. He's coming off of the boat tomorrow and I'm going to try and meet him. His show is sometimes bullshit kind of like Jerry Springer, but it's funny. I think he is actually poking fun at how ridiculous we, as a society, can be sometimes. Anyway, catch you later people out there in internet land.

I thought this was great considering I am a huge 'Royal Tenenbaums' fan.

Richie:
A seemingly perfect Renaissance man, others don't
see the scared individual you are on the
inside. While people are drawn to you, you
still feel bitterly alone. Perhaps if you vent
some of your feelings, the other ones will
disappear.

What Royal Tenenbaums character are you?
brought to you by Quizilla

BTW, that is what we call some guests at work, Tenenbaums.

Tenenbaum (ten-en-bom) adj., a person of high social stature or extremely well off that doesn't have a clue about real life, real people, or are generally as fucked up as the rest of us.

24 Jun 03 "Mmmm, this tastes good…"

The European government has refused all GM (genitcally modified) foods from the United States. This quite a bold move by a continent beleaguered by famine.
“For the sake of a continent threatened by famine, I urge the European governments to end their opposition to biotechnology,” said George Bush, who has previously said that GM crops could “dramatically'' boost productivity.
Yeah, they could boost productivity by making us sprout extra limbs or something. GM foods are an abomination of nature and should be outlawed. These hormone laden GM foods are causing girls as young 8,9, and 10 to already have their periods. They cause all kinds of problems in the human body that aren't told to the public. I mean is making a bigger tomato really worth the risk of a nation wide health crisis. Oh wait, I guess we are already in a health crisis considering the U.S. is one of the fattest countries in the world, and I'm not talking P-H-A-T.

In a time where we should all be watching what we eat anyway, we shouldn't have to worry if our food has been injected with hormones, chemicals, and lord knows what else. Corporate America is trying everything to make a buck off of you and I, the American public. But we are a product of our environment I suppose. Why do we have a psycho, redneck president? Because that is what our “American” schools have produced. I think George Carlin said it best, …”Garbage in, and garbage out. That's the best we can do, so fuck you.”

This is an ad I strongly urge you all to read and think about. It will only take a second, but just read it. If you have the gumption print it out, paste it around town. Hell, buy some adspace in a local publication and put it into print.

Until next time…

23 Jun 03 Weekend Update with FryGuy

So the weekend was rather strange. A usual I was working a the cesspool known as Disney Cruise Lines, but tensions were running high as the Union vote thing was going on. The majority voted in favor of the ILA (union), so now this shit is going to go on for another two years. That's okay though, hopefully I won't be at that place too much longer.

I watched MAX starring John Cusack over the weekend. It was a good “What if…” type of movie. It's good to see Cusack in a non-romantic comedy, although he does kick ass in them.

Noah Taylor plays a good Hitler, but it is hard to believe that Hitler was ever an artist.
I'll give it ||||||||, eight fries out of ten.

I'm going to go now becasue I drank a lot of White Russians last night and now I have a headache.

And remember…
No matter how bad you have it, there is always someone out there who's life is ten times worse. So appreciate what you have, not what you don't have.

20 Jun 03 A look back…

In the wake of so many new comic and superhero movies, we sometimes forget how far these geeky movies have come. Long before the mega success of “Spider-Man”, “X-Men”, “X:2″, “Daredevil”, and “The HULK” (to be released today) there were many not-so-great comic book/super-hero movies. So let's take a moment and look back at some of these less than perfect adaptions.

First up: Captain America

Who could forget the fantastic 1991 adaption of Jack Kirby and Joe Simon's patriotic freedom fighter. Sure Steve Rogers was reduced to wearing a modified wetsuit, Red Skull looked like a skin cancer victim, and the story didn't match the comic book hardly at all; but at least the director did a great job! As we all know this is one of the worst comic book adaptions ever, and easily one of the worst movies of all time.

Next up: The Punisher

Who would have thought that casting longt-time dramatic actor Dolph Lundgren as the skull wearing Frank Castle (aka the Punisher) would have been a bad idea. Well, maybe they should have damn it all. In 1989 one of the coolest, most hard-core anti-heroes of our time was turned into one of the lamest movies of all time. He wasn't even wearing the skull for crying out loud, the only resembling the comic character is the name. This one belongs in the trash.

Thirdly: The Phantom

What can I say about thise piece of turd. Billy Zane is a cool actor, but damn this thing sucked ass. You would think that a super-hero running through the jungle would try to camoflauge himself a bit, not this one. Instead he decides to wear a bright purple jumpsuit and ride around on a white horse. Sounds good to me eh.

The Shadow

Based on the 1950's radio show of the same name, this was the story of Lamont Cranston, aka the Shadow. This wasn't all that bad of a movie, but then again it wasn't all that great. But I thought I'd mention it just for nostalgic purposes.

And Finally: The Fantastic Four
Unfortuantely I can't find any pictures of this movie that was so bad thet they didn't even release it. How can a movie be so bad that after going through the entire casting, filming, and editing process it is unfit for release? This is truly a miracle of modern filmaking.

On a side note, The Punisher and The Fantastic Four are in the early stages of production for new films.

Anyway, goodbye.

“Man I'd like to kick his ass.”

19 Jun 03 So what's happening?

So North Korea has renewed nuke threats, another U.S. soldiers was killed in Iraq, more suicide bombers attack in Israel, and John Ashcroft claims that the U.S. has caught an 'Al Qaeda' supporter. These are some of the events happening in our world today….but enough of that nonsense. THE HULK COMES OUT TOMORROW, YIPEEE!.

Actually I have my reservations about the Hulk movie. It could be either really good or disturbingly bad depending on how director Ang Lee approached the storyline. After watching many of the previews, it also looks like the CGI Hulk is a bit cartoonish. Actually, he looks kind of like a pissed off Shrek on steroids.

“Grrrr…Shrek need sequel, or Pixar get one up on Dreamworks. Grrrr.”
